Meet the medical team

The Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital is led by four consultants working inside a tertiary general hospital. Tongchun Mao, MD, is responsible for the medical review of this site. A lifting decision genuinely involves the other three — complex and revision cases, the skin assessment that decides whether lifting is the right tool, and aftercare.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Aesthetic surgery · facial rejuvenation · the surgical decision

Dr. Tongchun Mao is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its aesthetic surgery service at Chongqing West District Hospital, and he is the physician responsible for this site. A core specialist formerly at the Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery Department of Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University, he has rooted his clinical practice for more than 20 years and personally performs over 700 operations a year.

Facial rejuvenation is the area where patients are most often sold more than they need. Dr. Mao’s position, and the one this site is written around, is that a lift should be justified by anatomy rather than by a birthday: the operation is good at repositioning tissue that has descended, and it does nothing for the surface quality of skin, which is a different problem with a different answer.

Clinical focus

  • Facial rejuvenation: facelift and lifting procedures, and their honest limits
  • Nasal surgery: primary rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, and nasal reconstruction
  • Detailed facial-feature refinement and repair (eyelid, nose, chin, lip)
  • Facial and body contouring, including fat grafting and hair transplantation

Academic roles & achievements

  • Member, Rhinoplasty and Trunk Tumor Groups, Chinese Medical Association Plastic Surgery Branch
  • Member, Chongqing Medical Aesthetics Quality Control Center; Member, Chongqing Medical Accident / Disability Assessment Expert Pools
  • Deputy Chair, Chongqing Shapingba District Medical Aesthetics Committee
  • Published 5 SCI papers, holds 7 national patents, and has participated in 4 research projects
  • Repeatedly named an “Outstanding Young Physician” at Xinqiao Hospital since joining in 2005

A lift is not a treatment for skin

Patients who want better skin are often offered an operation that moves tissue instead. Repositioning does not improve texture, pigment or sun damage, and it does not make pores smaller. If skin quality is what bothers you, that is a different plan — and often a smaller one.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Plastic surgery · complex cases · revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital, and previously served as Deputy Chief of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery at Xinqiao Hospital, affiliated with Army Medical University. On this site he is the second opinion a complex or previously operated face is brought to.

His part of the decision is the one patients rarely ask for: whether a lifting plan should proceed at all, and what a face that has already been operated on can safely tolerate the second time.

Clinical focus

  • Revision and reconstruction after failed cosmetic facial surgery
  • Complex wound repair and tertiary-hospital surgical support
  • Scar revision and comprehensive scar management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin & laser aesthetics · surgical aftercare

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of its skin and laser aesthetic service at Chongqing West District Hospital, with more than 20 years on the clinical front line.

Most of what people call facial ageing is not one problem. Laxity, volume loss, pigment, texture and dynamic lines each have a different answer, and only one of them is treated by lifting. Her part of this site is the assessment that separates them before an operation is planned.

Clinical focus

  • Skin quality, pigment and texture assessment before facial surgery
  • Non-surgical facial rejuvenation and its honest limits
  • Early scar prevention and repair after facial surgery
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · assessment and complication management

Dr. Yongbo Jia is Deputy Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and head of dermatology at Chongqing West District Hospital, trained at the Institute of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

Skin disease and sun damage change what a lift can achieve and how a scar will heal. His part of the assessment is the dermatological one, and it happens before an operation is planned rather than after.

Clinical focus

  • Dermatological assessment before facial surgery
  • Management of skin disease that affects surgical healing
  • Postoperative skin complications and barrier repair

Not sure whether a lift is the right answer?

An assessment starts with what actually bothers you, not with an operation. We will say plainly which parts of the ageing in your face a lift addresses, which it does not, and what we would advise instead.
